Class 1

Class 1 Learning Pathway (Provincial and Federal)

From April 1, 2025, Class 1 MELT has been replaced by Class 1 Learning Pathway, which is intended to build on the foundational knowledge introduced in the Entry Program by equipping drivers with the practical skills necessary to drive a commercial vehicle. 108 hours of training in the Entry and Core Learning programs and the Class 1 knowledge and road test will result in a Class 1 operator’s licence with provincial restriction, giving drivers the opportunity to immediately start working within Alberta. Completion of an additional 17-25 hours of training in the Competence Building program will allow the provincial restriction to be removed, permitting work outside of Alberta.
